II edition – June 26 to July 6, 2023
Santa Caterina di Nardò (Lecce)
Theme: The sacred stones and the hero’s journey. On a symbolic level, the rock-cave represents the axis of the world, solidity, eternity, protection, the womb, the home, the matrix, the mother… and evokes the image of the cosmic cave (sky and earth), a universal archetype present in sacred symbolism, philosophy, psychology, and art.
The landscape, myth, and sacred stones of Salento become clues for participants in a hypothetical “treasure map” that, through directions, paths, and references, will lead them to create their own SEM (or object of desire). A mythical happening in memory of the Hero’s journey, who passes through various states of being and finally finds his treasure (the true Self).
The 12 residents, representing the 12 Jungian archetypes (guardian angel, ruler, creator, innocent, sage, explorer, rebel, hero, lover, fool, orphan), led by the “Magician” (the curator), represented in their works the 12 qualities of being: changeable, durable, ephemeral, mystical, cathartic, dark, luminous, etc.
International artists in residency: Sandra Duran Wilson (United States) | Mark Licht (United States) | Linda Storm (United States) | Gary Storm (United States) | Bruno Clarke (United States) | Donna Clarke (United States) | Susan Schlepp (United States) | Douglas Schlepp (United States) | Dawn Daisley (United States) | Elise Carlson (United States) | Polyxene Kasda (Greece).
