Artist Profile

Gianni Chiriatti

Country: Italy

Wild nature, in all its complexity as a world of plants and animals, is deeply rooted in his artistic practice.

Gianni Chiriatti is an Italian artist who was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland, in 1973. A self-taught and multifaceted artist, he expresses himself through multidisciplinary practices such as painting, photography, video art, and installations. During his youth, he worked at an artisanal herbal shop specializing in the processing of wild plants. This was the decisive phase that led the artist to develop an interest in painting as well.

He has participated in group and solo exhibitions, biennials, and artist residencies in Italy and abroad. He favors anything related to nature. He uses a range of traditional and experimental techniques, including video art.

Gianni describes himself as “a collector of thoughts inspired by the elements of nature. My paintings reflect my homeland, Puglia, which constantly inspires me, provokes me, and brings forth images, scents, and flavors. As an artist, I listen, laugh, cry, admire, and try to translate into artistic language what is already all around me every day.”
