Kohlene Hendrickson was born in 1958 in California (United States). She lives and works in Romainmôtier (Switzerland). She studied fine arts at the Otis Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles, worked for 12 years as an illustrator and art director, and then returned to fine arts to study fresco painting with Frederico Vigil, a descendant of Diego Rivera.
Passionate about frescoes, she traveled to Italy where she discovered encaustic painting. Her search for a medium capable of conveying the transparent layering of colors and the richness of the material ultimately evolved into her unique multimedia technique, which combines materials such as beeswax, resin, pigments, and gum arabic. She has held numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States and Europe. She teaches encaustic and fresco techniques.
